NEWS CHANNEL

MUMBAI, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Broadcaster New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) will launch two non-news television channels and a second local news channel in India this year, a top official said on Monday.

It now runs six channels in India and three overseas.

The company will launch a Bollywood entertainment channel, Imagine Showbiz, later this month, and has also lined up a world movies channel under the 'NDTV Lumiere' brand, Chief Executive K.V.L. Narayan Rao said.

It has begun distributing movies from around the world to cinemas under the brand to tap the growing potential from multiplexes, he said.

A local English news channel would also be unveiled in Chennai by December, he added.

In July, the company, which runs English news channel NDTV 24x7 and Hindi news channel NDTV India, received board approval to set up a company for building studio production facilities in which its offshore units would invest up to $150 million.

Earlier this year the company agreed to sell 26 percent in an overseas unit to NBC Universal Inc for $150 million. The funds will be used for its expansion plans, including on the news front, Rao said. (Reporting by Jasudha Kirpalani, Editing by Sunil Nair)
